Dr. John Wesley Turner, married to Luetta P. Green Thompson, lived on a cattle ranch and Dr. Turner was a country physician. His tools are in the Callahan Co. Courthouse Museum for safe-keeping. The Dr. John Wesley Turner who died in Brown County, TX in 1904 was not in our family. He was not the son of Thomas William Turner and Penelope Cartwright of Wilson Co., TN and the father of Josephine, Armenia, and John Wesley Jr. Our great grandfather was from Wilson County and lived in the Lebanon area. His parents are listed above. We know from our family members that he was educated at Cumberland College near Nashville, later to become Vanderbilt Medical School. We also know he left TN around 1880 when a wagon train came through Wilson County and needed a physician. He joined them and headed west. We also know that he first went to Dallas and began a horse breeding business but it failed. Then he moved to Shackelford County, near Abilene, and went into the Cattle business and did well. He died young. He never returned to Tennessee, so his death certificate the researchers have found is not the correct man. We know our grandfather died when John Wesley Jr. was just a baby, and he was born in 1888. Please read below about the tombstone. Additional Comments: The tombstone picture can be viewed at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/shackelford/photos/tombstones/albany.html Luetta Turner married Thomas Boguss Hadley after Dr. Turner, and on her tombstone, it states that she was married to Dr. Turner. Dr. Hadley died in 1907. They had one child, Thomas Bogus Hadley, Baird, TX.
