The Lake Victor Basketball Team of 1923-1924.



J.W. EDGAR, commissioner of Texas education, dug this photo out of his personal archives 

for the Highlander. It shows the Lake Victor school basketball team of 50 years ago, one 

of the teams that made Lake Victor..a community located between Burnet and Lampasas--a 

formidable athletic crew, no matter what the event, but particularly in basketball and 

baseball. In the front row, from left, are Vernon WATKINS, Mark FEILD, Ralph SHELBURN. 

Second row, Lawrence THOMPSON, Alton DUZAN, Selman COWAN and Clyde ALEXANDER. Third row, 

Brown GEREN, Ray SHEBURN, Lawrence TRAWEEK, and Homer FARISS. Top row, Walter SHILLING, 

principal, who taught the upper grades, and J. W. EDGAR, who taught the middle grades. 

Dr. EDGAR called off the names of each of the perons in the picture with no hesitation 

at all, quite a feat after a half-centry.
