Camp Co. TX - Obit for John E. Acre Submitted by: June E. Tuck Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ------------------------------------------------ John E. Acre, aged 50 committed suicide Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock by taking carbolic acid. The tragedy took place at his home a few miles northwest of Pittsburg while members of the family were working in a nearby field. When they returned to the house three hours later they found the body lying on a bed clothed in working garments. The deceased had evidently stopped his watch before taking the poison. An empty two-ounce bottle was found near the body. A note addressed to the family was found on a table, leaving instructions as to insurance policies and in which he expressed regret for his act. Despondency growing out of business difficulties is thought to have been the motive for self-destruction. Mr. Acre leaves a wife and five children. He was regarded as a splendid man by his neighbors and friends and his death was a shock to the whole community. - Pittsburg Gazette (Reprinted in Hopkins Co. Echo, Nov. 12, 1920)
