"Bob" Abernathy, 94, of Hallsville will be held at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 15, 2003, at Mobberly Baptist Church with Dr. Laney Johnson, Dr. Gregg Zackary and the Rev. Scott Schulik officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Abernathy died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1909, in Hughes Springs to Jerry L. and Ila Lineburger Abernathy. A lifelong area resident, he was an active member of the Mobberly Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for more than 50 years and was church treasurer for 25 years. Mr. Abernathy also was a member of the Longview Masonic Lodge No. 404 and a member of the Sharon Temple Shrine. He was an automobile parts salesman for East Texas Auto and H&S Auto. Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife of 72 years, LaNell, of Hallsville; his daughters, Jerry Elizabeth Clark and Linda Felts of Hallsville; a sister, Carrie Bridges of Atlanta; his grandchildren and their spouses, Dan and Shirley Clark of Longview, Kay and Tommy Hopkins of Hallsville, Linda and Kenneth Hopkins of Longview, Mark and Pam Felts of Lake Cherokee and Randy and Annette Clark of Longview; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Harold Abernathy, in 1959. The family received friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mobberly Baptist Church Building Fund.
