Transcribed from a Bible that once belong to Benjamin Franklin Holcomb,
eldest son of William Jefferson Holcomb and Martha Gibson, and
generously given to me by one of Benjamin's descendants, Inez Lura (Holcomb)
Plum.  There are a few errors in the record.  The most notable is Martha
(Gibson) Holcomb's birth month and death day.  Also, Martha Gibson had
no known middle name.  I believe that the recorder may have been
confusing the Martha Gibson in this list with Martha A. Hamilton, who was
William J. Holcomb's third wife, and with whom he had no children.  After
William J. Holcomb died in 1869, Martha A. (Hamilton) Holcomb married
Archibald O. Stewart on 31 Aug 1870 in Cherokee Co., TX.

Comment:  The names and dates as originally written are preserved in
the above transcription.  The names and corrections in parenthesis are my
own additions.  Benjamin F. Holcomb and Sarah E. Beasley married in
Cherokee Co., TX.  Sarah E. (Beasley) Holcomb died on 10 Jul 1890.  She
and Benjamin F. Holcomb are buried in Gladewater Cemetery in Titus Co.,
TX.  William Jefferson Holcomb married Martha Gibson on 22 Apr 1847 in
Cherokee Co., TX.  He married Mrs. Penelope Snipes (widow of Robert P.
Snipes, Sr.) on 4 Oct 1860 and Martha A. Hamilton on 1 Jun 1865, also in
Cherokee Co., TX.  William Jefferson Holcomb and Martha (Gibson)
Holcomb I believe are buried in the Cook and Gibson family plot in Salem
Cemetery, located South of Rusk, Cherokee Co., TX, although no marker for
their graves now exists.
