Baze, Fort Worth, TX 1927-1928 School Year. Robert Lee Independent School District, Robert Lee, Texas. Sixty years ago the Robert Lee School had only ten grades, therefore the tenth grade was the Senior Class. L. C. PYLE was Superintendent and Lela Kate GRIFFITH was the teacher and class sponsor. There were nineteen students: Albert E. Baze Aura Puitt Ruby Bessent Pauline Rabb Margie Collier Corina Roberts Dora Davis Verna Robertson Roy Gene Denman Wilbur King Simpson Ora Beth Ditmore Nell Sparks Woodrow W. Gardner Virginia Williams Harold James Vivian Woods Jewell Ledbetter Elgene Wyatt Leroy McFarland Five boys were on the basketball team: Frank Allen Leroy McFarland Albert E. Baze Thurman Rabb Woodrow Gardner 1928-1929 School Year. The eleventh grade was added to the system and Baze, Davis, Gardner, Roberts, Simpson, Woods, and Wyatt came back to graduate again. They now had two high school diplomas. Others in the 1929 graduating class were: Reagan Daniel Katherine Bilbo Victor Wojtek Velma Ione Havins Opal Hurley Lois Denman wa also in the class but did not receive a diploma because she already had two: one from Robert Lee in 1926 and one from Rotan in 1927. Some more started but transferred out before graduation. The were: Roy Denman Irene McDorman Boyd Smith Ora Belle Vestal Ethel Bessent B. M. GRAMBLING was Superintent and George TAYLOR was principal. High School education in the cotton raising farms of that period has been described as "catch-as-catch-can" type. But that is alright because I know of no business failures among thos graduates.
