Dawson, Crowell, Texas Dear Mrs. Dawson: I note from the State Treasurer's Office, Austin, Texas, that you are cashing your pension warrants for October, November and December, 1933 through a bank at Dill City, Oklahoma. These warrants also show you endorsed them in the presence of witnesses at Dill City, Oklahoma. If it is true that you have for any reason moved to Dill City, Oklahoma then this office has had no notice of such removal. The requirement of the law is that if a pensioner shall leave Texas, or if a pensioner shall remove from one address to another then this office should be immediately notified. Under such conditions it is a violation of the law for any one to forward these warrants. I am asking that you at once let me know whether you are residing at Dill city, Oklahoma, and if so, you will please furnish me the exact date on which you left the State of Texas. It will be necessary for you to furnish this information before further pension warrants will issue to you Yours very truly, Comptroller of Public Accounts JHT:E ==================================================================== =========================== April 16, 1934 Mr. C. A. Fenn Dill, Oklahoma Dear Mrs. Fenn: I am in receipt of your letter of April 19 in which you informed this office that your Mother, Mrs. Amanda J. Dawson who has been a Confederate pensioner of Texas left the State of Texas on June 5, 1932. Under the law of this State she could only have remained out of Texas for six months and yet be entitled to pension. The records of this office show that Mrs. Dawson has drawn pension warrants continuously since leaving Texas up to and including March, 1934, which warrants, since December, 1932 have been illegally issued to her because of the fact that she failed to notify this office of her absence as required by law. It appears that the law has also been violated by some on in forwarding these warrants to Mrs. Dawson as they have at all times been mailed to Crowell, Texas. A stop payment has been placed against warrants issued Mrs. Dawson for the January, February and March 1934 which warrants are numbered 41033, 49383 and 57608. I am asking that Mrs. Dawson be required to return these warrants for cancellation. Inasmuch as Mrs. Dawson received an illegal warrant for the month of December, 1932 and for the twelve months of 1933, she is at this time due the Pension Fund of Texas $325.00, which I am asking that she at once return to this office. Please let me know at once what your Mother's intentions are with reference to making this remittance. Yours very truly, Comptroller of Public Accounts JHT:E cc: Mrs. Amanda J. Dawson, Dill, Oklahoma ==================================================================== =========================== April 23, 1934 Mr. Oxsheer Smith, President, Citizens National Bank, Cameron, Texas. Dear Mr. Smith: I am in receipt of information that Mrs. Amanda J. Dawson, a Confederate pensioner, file number 22771, has been residing in the State of Oklahoma for almost two years. For this reason all pension warrants issued to her since November, 1932 have been issued in violation of the statute of Texas, on account of her failure to notify this office of her absence from the State, as required by pension law. I have stopped payment on Confederate Pension warrants issued Mrs. Dawson for the months of January, February and March, 1934, which warrants are numbered 41033, 49383 and 57608. I am asking that if you are in possession of such warrants that you make such arrangements with Mrs. Dawson as will cause the warrants to be returned to this office for cancellation. Yours very truly, Comptroller of Public Accounts JHT:E ==================================================================== =========================== April 16, 1934 Postmaster, Crowell, Texas Dear Sir: For sometime Confederate Pension Warrants issued to Mrs. Amanda J.
