J. S. Smith arranged a surprise birthday party for her Saturday evening, July 13, at the Robert Lee County park, on her 83rd birthday. Mrs. Smith, formerly Mrs. Trimble, enjoys good health and is still active. She is one of the pioneer mothers of Coke County. Present were her two sons and two daughters and members of their families; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Trimble, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Trimble and Nancy, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Garvin and Mrs. R. S. Crum, all of Robert Lee; Mrs. Verna Donnaghue, G. P. Lowry and family of San Angelo, Mrs. Josie Russell of Lovington, New Mexico, Mrs. Alma Varnadore of Del Norte, Colorado and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Trimble were unable to attend.
