The event raised $830.00. The members of the club came from all over the state and even some out of state. They welcome anyone to come out and watch or participate in the long-range black powder matches that are held every 2nd Sunday (weather permitting). For information, please contact Gary Jennings in Baird, Texas at 915-954-1893. There were shooters from Abilene, Baird, Breckenridge, Cross Plains, Dallas, San Angelo, and from other places around the state. It took a dedicated shooter to stay out in the dust storm that came rumbling through the area on Sunday afternoon. Considering the weather, it turned out to be a great two days of fun and fellowship with the proceeds going to a worthy cause. The Fort Chadbourne Foundation was organized at the beginning of 1999 and its first phase of work is to stabilize the existing ruins that remain at Fort Chadbourne. Fort Chadbourne is an 1852 frontier military post set up to help protect the mail and explorers and settlers during the westward movement on the advancing frontier. The Butterfield Overland Mail route came through Fort Chadbourne. Fort chadbourne is one of the eight forts along the Texas Forts Trail. For any information on Fort Chadbourne, please contact the foundation at 915-743-2555. The fort is open 7 days a week for viewing during the daylight hours. The office is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. All donations made to the foundation are considered a charitable donation.
