The Save the Jail project is gaining momentum. The Coke County His1orical Commission's booth on Juno 22 at the Fort Chadboume Days event was met interest and enthusiasm raffle ticket for the Ted Disco replica of the jail raised than $50 and the sale of Jan Austin Bruckner's book, Grandmother Stories, raised a signijicant amount. Mrs. Austin donated a number of her books to be sold by the Historical Commission for the renovation effort of the old jail. Bonita Copeland, whose father was the last sheitff and whose mother and father were the last famlly to occupy the old jail1 is heading up a project to do a histical account and personal memories collection of the jail. Any descendant of any of the early sheriffs who would be willing to share memorabilia or pictures or stories can call Mrs. Copeland at (915) 453-2698 or write to her at 209 West 14th, Robert Lee, TX 76945. Anyone with a tale to about the jail should contact her also. This project will fill a sizeable gap in Coke County history. Those who information with Mrs. Copeland will be leaving legacy for the future. Last week the Coke County crews performed a much needed and appreclated service by moving the remaining items from the jail to a storage unit donated by Clendennen Storage.
