The Daughters of the American Revolution were negotiating for the purchase of Colonel Goode's home, hoping to place it on the National Register of Historic Places, however, it had been owned by the Presby- terian Church for some time and they chose to clear the home and build a new church, agreeing to an easement for the monument. Thomas' parents were Patriots of the Revolution, Edward and Judith Goode; they provisioned American Troops with food and livestock. Thomas' daughter, Jane married Jacob Walton, signer of The Declaration of Independence and his first cousin, Bennet Goode, married Martha, the sister of Statesman, Thomas Jefferson. Thomas enlisted in the Virginia Continental Line when he was sixteen years of age. Thomas and his brother John were expert horsemen. They had hunted fox over the terrain of many of the battles, however, they were such extraordinary runners, General Washington used them as his scouts, they delivered intelligence and commands on foot! Both were with Washington for the surrender of General Cornwallis at the end of the Seige of York. The Goode men always signed themselves "Planter" or "Gentlemen" but their good Plantaganet blood must have had a low boiling point. Many times Thomas Jefferson Goode assumed the responsibility of military command serving in the war of 1812, various Indian Wars and also the Creek Wars becoming a Colonel under fire. Paradoxically, he was also a Methodist Clergymen, the father, grandfather and the great-grandfather of Methodist Clergymen. Coke County people who are descended by blood from Thomas Jefferson Goode are the issue of his son Joseph who married his first cousin Margaret Goode, their daughter Maranda married Thomas Jefferson Herron. They were parents of Edward Mack Herron who came to Coke County before the turn of the Century. Edward Mack Herron and his wife, Susan Roseanner Best Herron are buried at Fairview Cemetery in Bronte. They are the forefathers of many you know, Ruth Sandusky, Willie Forman, Pearlie Mae Andrews, the Pruitts, the Hickman men, Ed, John, and Pete, Maxine Labenske, Dean Percifull, and me, a country girl from Coke County, Frankie Beth Williams, Las Vegas, Nevada.
