Mrs. Sauls is daughter to Mrs. Stickney. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes by Albert E. Baze: The John Saul family who, during the 1920s, ranched on the Colorado River west of Robert Lee must not be confused with this Mr. and Mrs. Sauls, who were the Joseph H. Sauls. F. L. (Frank) Harris and Ralph Harris were sons of L. B. Harris who built the two story adobie brick house on the river southeast of Robert Lee in 1885. Frank and Ralph Harris operated the Harris Brothers Ranch of forty five sections between Robert Lee and the Tom Green County line for the first half of the 20th century. Around the turn of the century Robert Lee was better known as Lee. J. A. Green was better know as "Uncle Jack". Some time after 1899 he had a grocery store in Robert Lee. I remember buying candy at his store. He lost one son, Roy, in World War I. I went to the funeral in 1918. Another son, Walter O., was a long time policeman in San Angelo. His grandsons, Walter's boys, were my schoolmates. They are: Walter Baze Green, retired from Texaco Production Co., now lives in Palestine, Texas; J. Roy Green, retired from the Texas State Highway, now lives in Uvalde, Texas. There are other children but I have not kept up with them. The descendants of J. C. McCabe still ranch on the Divide in Coke County: Fred and Fred Junior. Victor McCabe lives near Sanco. Relatives of Miss Lou Wilkins now live in Bronte. J. Miles O'Daniel, a nephew of Miles O'Daniel, was an old time wool buyer in San Angelo. Some of his people still live there. J. J. Vestal was a blacksmith for over half of a century in Robert Lee. One of his daughters, Ora Belle who married Chester McDaniel, lives in Coleman, Texas. Descendants of F. L. Harris operate ranches south of Rankin and west of Water Valley. Ralph Harris, Jr., son of Ralph and grandson of L. B., ranches in Uvalde, Texas Lois Vowell, a retired school teacher, married Dee McClesky and now lives in Robert Lee. Montgomery Trimble, better known as Monty, has descendants living in Coke. Among them are Jack and Edward. One died recently, but I don't remember which. Jack Miles was an old time steer roping champion. He worked on the Harris Brothers ranch in Coke just before my father became foreman there in 1906. Later he was a constable in San Angelo. Susan B. was a relative. John Saul, Jr. and his wife, the former Tresban Russell, dau. of old time sheriff of Coke County, Sam Russell, now live in Hutto, Texas. Mrs. Stickney was a relative of the late Mrs. J. S. Gardner who has a son, Winston, living in Kilgore, and a son, Wilford, living in Midland. I have lost track for the Joseph H. Sauls family. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Stalkin' Kin Ed.
