Death came at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, to Mrs. Bailey
Russell, former Robert Lee teacher and one of the community's
most respected citizens. Her passing occurred at Coke County
Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient the past week.
Mrs. Russell had been in failing health a number of years,
but two weeks ago was able to make a trip with her husband to
visit her mother at Liberty Hill.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Robert
Lee Methodist Church, with the pastor, Rev. Warren Ellis, officiat-
ing. Arrangements and burial in the Robert Lee Cemetery were in
charge of Clift Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were G. L. Taylor, Delbert Vestal, F. C. Clark,
C. A. Brown, Otto Wojtek, Fred McDonald, Jr., Bryan Yarbrough and

Mary M. Stubblefield was born Sept. 22, 1897, at Liberty Hill,
Texas, where she attended school and grew to womanhood. She was
united in marriage to Bailey Russell of Robert Lee on June 28, 1927.
Surviving are her husband, her mother, Mrs. W. O. Stubblefield
of Liberty Hill; three sisters, Mrs. J. E. Humphries and Mrs. H. E.
Phillips of Liberty Hill and Mrs. L. B. McLaren of Mesquite; and
three brothers, M. A. Stubblefield of Ft. Stockton, S. H. Stubble-
field of Liberty Hill and C. F. Stubblefield of Bertram.
At an early age Mrs. Russell joined the First Methodist Church
at Liberty Hill and later affiliated with the Robert Lee Methodist
Church. She was a devoted member the rest of her life, for she
loved her church.
Miss, Mary, as her friends lovingly called her, taught first
grade in the Robert Lee schools from 1923 until 1941, when she resigned
because of failing health. Before coming to Robert Lee, she taught
five years in the Williamson County schools. In all, Mrs. Russell
devoted 23 years of her life to the teaching profession.
Her pupils and many friends are in sorrow with her family at
her passing, for to know her was to love her.
