Daniel Harvey Palmer,West Texas Baptist preacher for more than half a century,died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday in Coke County Memorial Hospital at Robert Lee. He was 93. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Bronte Baptist Church. The Rev. Mr.Palmer, born May 1, 1859, in Sparta, Miss. came to Texas with his parents 81 years ago. He went to school at West Point Military Acadmy after his fater tried to fashion some sort of elementary education for him. His last college work was taken at old Bevans Institute in San Marcus. There he recieved a diploma equivalent to the present law degree. The Rev. Mr. Palmer practiced law for seven years, but withdrew from his legal career, because, as he once said," I was afraid I would learn to tell a falsehood." Of his life as a Baptist preacher he sometimes recalled that part was pleasant and part was not. He was ordained in the ministry in the Mission Baptist Church at Mason in April of 1893. He began his frontier pastorate in Goliad. He was wed to the former Violet Norton, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. P.D. Norton, in Cottonwood, Callahn County Aug. 3, 1887. In 1893, the couple moved to Menard, to Garden City in 1911, and in 1943,they moved to Bronte. For the last year the couple made thier home in Lake View. Rev. Palmer was admitted to the hospital Saturday night. The body now is at Clift Funeral Home in Robert Lee. Survivors include his wife, five sons, Ben F. of San Angelo, Albert R. of Brownwood and John of Odessa; five daughters, Mrs.Verna Sims of Bronte, Mrs. Zimrude Cooper of Camp Pickett, VA., Mrs. Lula Walker of Robert Lee and Mrs.Cora Virginia Kennedy of Palistine, 29 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and a great great grandson. Three children preceded him in death. The Rev. C.R. Balke,former pastor of Bronte Baptist Church who now lives in Lubbock,will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Rogers, Bronte Pastor. Burial will be in Bronte Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harvey Allen of San Angelo, J.B. Walker Jr. of Silver, Jake Allen of Lamesa, Ed Dart of Amarillo, Dale Green of San Angelo and Bobby Walker of Robert Lee. ---
