B. Johnson, Bronte Pioneer Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. for Mrs. J. B. Johnson, area pioneer, who died at 10:30 am. Tuesday in Bronte Hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Johnson was 89 years old. Last rites will be held at Central Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Wayne N. Stout, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clift Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 29, 1874, in Kentucky. She came to Texas in her early years, and was married in 1889 in Eastland County to J. B. Johnson. The family moved to Coke County in 1911, and prior to that time had lived in Runnels County. Mrs. Johnson lived for the past 50 years at the same place southwest of Bronte. She was a Baptist. Survivors include sevean sons, O. L., Bob and Pat Johnson, all of Bronte, R. C. and Bill Johnson, both of Ballinger, Dan Johnson of Bangs and Wayne Johnson of San Angelo; four daughters, Mrs. Roy Newberry of Portales, N. M., Mrs. M. R. Simpson of Arlington and Mrs. R. D. Mitchell of Houma, LA; 39 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
