H. Wylie, Pioneer Rancher Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in First United Methodist Church in Ballinger for Conda H. Wylie, 86, long time Coke and Runnels County rancher and philanthropist. Mr. Wylie was dead on arrival Monday night at Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He apparently suffered a heart attack at his home northeast of Bronte shortly after 9 p.m. Mr. Wylie was born Dec. 7, 1882 on the old Wylie Ranch between Bronte and Ballinger. He was married Dec. 14, 1904 to Miss Edna Odom. The couple lived in Ballinger and San Angelo before moving to the Odom Ranch at the site of old Fort Chadbourne in 1908. Mr. Wylie was well known throughout West Texas for his contri- butions to charitable and educational institutions. Known as the "Father of the Cattlemen's Roundup" for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, he was also a large contributor to West Texas Boys Ranch of San Angelo, McMurry College, Baptists Geriatrics Hospital in San Angelo, to the Methodist Churches in Ballinger and Bronte, and to Coke County fund drives, such as the March of Dimes, Heart Fund, Boy Scouts and others. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. E. L. (Maurene) Richards of Clearwater Beach, Fla.; one grandson, Conda O. Richards of Bronte; one sister, Mrs. Edwin H. Mertz of San Angelo; and six great grandchildren. Burial was in Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
