BIRD DUE SERVICES AT SANCO Sanco (SC) - Mrs. I. A. (Maud) Bird, 85, member of a pioneer Coke County family, died at 1:40 a.m. Saturday in St Johns Hospital in San Angelo where she has been a patient since Dec. 26. She had been ill about 15 months. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Sanco Methodist Church with burial in Sanco Cemetery directed by Williams Funeral Home of Robert Lee. Mrs. Bird, the former Mary Maud Cosby, was born Nov. 11, 1882 at Lone Oak in Hunt County. She was married April 29, 1900 to Ira A. Bird at Sanco. The couple had lived in Sanco most of their life. She was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church. The couple first came to the area shortly after their marriage and set up ranching on open range land before barbed-wire and fences came to West Texas. Mr. Bird purchased the ranch where he now lives in 1912 for about $5 an acre. Survivors include her husband; Mrs. Audrey (Evelyn) McKinley and Mrs. Nolan (Mary Jo) Pentecost, both of Sanco; two brothers, R. C. Cosby of Cochise, Ariz., and Clarence N. Cosby of Canyon; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Bird of Midland and Mrs. Ida Billingsley of Canyon; two grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
