The Rev. James H. Sanders, pastor, officiating. Burial was at the Sanco Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Travis Pannell, J.C. Wallace, Jr., J. B. Robertson, Ray Aldridge, Elmer Adkins, Nolan Pentecost and G. W. Anderson. Mr. Adkins died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday at West Coke County Hospital after a short illness. Jess Leander Akdins was born Sept. 4, 1898 at Sanco, son of Andrew Jackson and Mollie (Byrd) Adkins. He was married to Alma Dorsey Sept. 3, 1936 at Sweetwater. He was a oil field worker and had lived in various towns before retiring and returning to Robert Lee in 1970. Survivors include his wife; three brothers, Ernest Adkins of Charleston; Ark., John Adkins of El Cajon, Calif. and O.D. Adkins of Robert Lee; and several nieces and nephews.
