"Beck" Adkins of Midland were held Saturday, October 19, at 3 p.m. in the Crestview Baptist Church. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Porterfield officiated the services. Mr. Adkins, 59, died last Thursday in a Midland hospital of cancer. He was born July 4, 1926 in Sanco to the late Dave Adkins and Susie Nancy Barnett Adkins who were pioneer Coke Countians. Mrs. Adkins' father, John W. Barnett, was Coke County and District Clerk from 1897 to 1906. Her grandfather, L.B. Murray, was Coke County Sheriff from 1895 until 1902. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Mr. Adkins began work in the oilfield trucking business. He later started his own company, B&B Oil Field Hauling, which he operated until 1981 when he retired. He had lived in Snyder before moving to Midland in 1962. He was a member of the Crestview Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason of Lodge, #623, and a member of Ranchland Hills and Greentree Country Clubs. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn of Midland; five daughters, Paula Duncan, Teena McCabe, Sammy Vail, Becky Conklin, and Wyota Massey, all of Midland; two brothers, J.D. Adkins of Marble Falls and N.D. Adkins of Odessa; two sisters, Ruth Rives, Odessa, and Sue Ammons of Prescott, Arizona; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers included Nolan Allen, Gene Grimes, Paul Varner, R.O. McWilhams, Davy Cruzon, and Norman Van Lieu. Honorary pallbearers were Ardee Morgan, Elmer Martin, Pewee Rogers and Paul Isabel.
