Bennett, age 81, a resident of Albuquerque 34 years died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bennett and a daughter, Mary L. Bennett, both of Albuquerque; two sons, Alfred A. Bennett and wife, Betty Lou of Arkansas, William R. Bennett and wife Chris of Tennessee; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lonnie B. Shelton of Texas; a sister-in-law, Vera Raney and husband Henry; and brother-in-law, Steven Baldwin and wife Naoma; his friend and best buddy, Mary Beth Honaker, and companion, Stubby. Mr. Bennett was a member of Central United Methodist Church and served on Administrative Board, as well as, sponsoring the youth for several years, and was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Operating Engineers, worked with the Ultradine Engineering Laboratory and the Lovelace Research Foundation, and belonged to the Zia Roamers and Good Samaritan Club. Services were held Tuesday, May 24th at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle, N.E., with Dr. Dick Clemmer, Dr. Harry~Vanderpool and Rev. Davis Edens, officiating. Interment followed in Sandia Memory Gardens. Serving as casket bearers were David Schmuck, Fred Sena, Eldon Baker, Norman Kepler, Mario Barela and Jim Manning; the honorary bearers were member of the Zia Roamers Club. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Mr. Bennett was a resident of Bronte over 40 years ago. He was a dragline operator at Humlong Gravel Plant, south of Bronte on the Colorado River near the old railroad bridge.
