Obituary: Cleora Saphronia Smith Davis, September 9, 1987 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines December 2010 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Robert Lee, Coke County, TX - September 18, 1987 DAVIS Cleora Saphronia Smith Davis Mrs. Cleora (Fronie) Davis died suddenly at her home on Wednesday morning, September 9, 1987. Memorial services were held in the Northside Church of Christ at 10 a.m., followed by burial in the Robert Lee Cemetery. Services were officiated by Tommy Williams and directed by Shaffer Funeral Home. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Cleora Saphronia was born February 25, 1906 in Robert Lee to William Addison and Clementine Stroud Smith. She moved with her family to Stockdale, Texas when only a few months old. She and her brother, Merritt Smith, returned to Coke County in 1918 when their parents died. They made their home with grandparents, Merritt and Fatima Stroud, on a farm just south of Robert Lee and attended Robert Lee School. She was married to Mitchell (Mike) Davis on December 2, 1922 in Robert Lee where they were lifetime residents. Mrs. Davis was employed for many years by Roach's Dry Goods and Froggy's Café. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Her survivors include two daughters, Ione Raymond of Houston and Maurine Vosburg of Robert Lee; one son, Add Davis of Robert Lee; nine grandchildren , Debra Rives, Buddy Vosburg, and Doug Pierce of San Angelo; Mitch Raymond, Joe Pierce, and Fronia Estep of Houston; Mike Davis of Hawley; Burl Davis and Nadine Davis of Robert Lee; and 10 great grandchildren, Javanna and Stephanie Rives, Caleb, Luke and Lizbeth Vosburg, Abigayle and Trevor Pierce, all of San Angelo; Craig Davis of Hawley; Angela Kay Davis of Kermit and Michael Estep of Houston.
