Charlie was born in Hermleigh, Texas, June 16, 1914, to Robert Henry and Bertie Elizabeth (Dowell) Drennan. He married Ruby Virginia Rodgers on December 27, 1933, in Hermleigh. In October 1934 Charlie and Ruby moved to Sterling County, Texas, where Charlie went to work as a trail driver for Claude Collins, Sr. During WWII he became ranch manager for Mr. Collins. After Mr. Collins' death, he continued to manage the Collins Estate until retiring in October 1974 after 40 years of service. Upon retiring, he devoted his time and energy to the partnership he formed with his three sons in 1966. Drennan and Sons at one time operated ranches in 11 Texas counties, comprising 125 sections. This partnership dissolved in 1985, and once again Charlie "retired". In 1985 Charlie and Ruby built a home on Lake Spence in which they enjoyed hosting family and friends. Fishing, hunting, playing dominoes and "42" and visiting friends were enjoyed by Charlie, but his greatest enjoyment came from his family. He always loved having them near him. Charlie and Ruby celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 1983 with a family dinner at the recreation center in Sterling City.
