The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. *********************************************************************** VERA THOMAS RANEY BRONTE - Vera Thomas Raney, 90, of Bronte died Wednesday, April 6, 1994, in the West Coke County Nursing home in Robert Lee. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 1994, at the First United Methodist Church in Bronte. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Mrs. Raney was born March 13, 1904, in Fort Chadbourne, Texas. She had been a resident of Bronte, Texas, most all of her life. She was a schoolteacher for the Bronte Public Schools. During her life, she had been Teacher of the Year, Personality of the South in 1971, and in Who's Who in American Education from 1956-1966. She received her 50-year appreciation plaque from the Bronte Ex-Student Associ- ation in 1971. That year, she also received her certificate of merit from the Bronte Public Schools. She has also been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bronte since March 3, 1929. Mrs. Raney is survived by a brother, Stephen Baldwin of Kermit, Texas; a sister, Ruth Bennett of Albuquerque, N.M.; three nephews, Al Bennett of Lindale, Texas, Bill Bennett of Albuquerque, N.M., and Johnny Baldwin of Odessa, Texas; and two nieces, Mary Moore of Los Lunes, N.M., and Vera Ann McNabb of Odessa, Texas.
