Sharp of Carlsbad, Texas, died Friday, November 7, 1997, in a San Angelo hospital. A memorial service was held at 2 pm Monday, November 10, at Robert Lee Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Shaffer Funeral Home. Clifford was born August 20, 1921, to Elbert and Laura Culp Sharp near King, Texas, in Coryell County. He attended school at King, Bee House, and Plainview. He attended Bee House Methodist Church and was baptized in the Cow Creek when he was 11 years old. Cliff swerved in the CCC's for six months in Grand Canyon, Arizona, from 1940 to 1941. He also served in the 47th United States Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) from 1942 to 1945. He spent 26 months building airstrips for fighter planes on different islands in the South Pacific. Cliff worked for San Angelo Telephone Company from 1945 to 1954 until he retired in 1975, after 30 years with the two companies. He farmed and ranched for 34 years. Cliff married Mary Murtishaw on March 6, 1946, in San Angelo. They lived in Bronte, San Angelo, and near Carlsbad, Texas. Cliff is survived by his wife, Mary "Murt" Sharp of the home; a daughter, Cliffie, son-in-law, Jerry, and granddaughter, Lauran Sensabaugh, all of Coppell; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends he loved. The family requests donations be sent to the Robert Lee Care Center, Bronte Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
