Lillie Ruth Garvin, 92, of Robert Lee died Thursday, 
September 18, 1997, in West Coke County Nursing Home.

Graveside service was held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 21, in the
Robert Lee Cemetery.  Arrangements were by Shaffer Funeral Home.

Ruth was born in Runnels County to J. W. and Matilda Cathey.  They
came to Coke County in 1928.  She married Luther Bruton; he preceded
her in death in 1933.  She married Ralph Garvin in 1934; he preceded
her in death in September of 1985.  She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church and was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, John L. Bruton and his wife, Janie, of 
Midland, two granddaughters and their husbands, Paula and Greg Belt
of Odessa and Patti and Farris Parson of Midland; three great-
grandchildren, Ellen and Emily Belt and Jaret Parson; also a 
stepdaughter Marjorie Christi of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren,
Georgia Ann, Linda, and David; and several great-grandchildren.
