He lived in the Maverick and Bronte area all of his life and was a farmer and rancher. He married Dorothy Frances Thomas March 21, 1945, in Ballinger. She preceded him in death in 1985. He was a World War II Veteran, having served as Staff Sergeant, and was assigned to a transportation corps, Port Company in the European Theater of Operations and was involved in four major invasions. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maverick, Texas. He was the son of Leslie and Mona Carlton of Maverick and is survived by two grandchildren, Ron Carlton and wife, Heather, of Happy, Texas; and Cyndi Carlton of Arlington, Texas; one great-grandson, Quincy Kent Carlton of Happy, Texas; two sisters Mildred Sandlin and Frances Loving, both of Abilene, Texas, one brother, Russell Carlton of Maverick; many friends and other family members. There was a visitation from 7 pm until 8 pm November 22, at the Rains-Seale Funeral Home in Ballinger with Military/Graveside services November 23 at 10 am in Fairview Cemetery in Bronte under direction of Rains-Seale Funeral Home in Ballinger.
