Services were held Friday, June 2 at Blackwell Methodist Church with Rev. Jackie Gestes officiating. Burial was at Blackwell Cemetery. Wayne was born October 13, 1945 in Roscoe and married Christine Wihera on April 8, 1978 in El Paso. He was a 1964 graduate of Blackwell High School and a 1968 graduate of Sul Ross State University with a B.S. in Geology. He worked for Houston hydrogeologist for the past ten years and had been involved with the ground water industry for thirty years. Survivors include his wife Christine Buckner of Blackwell; two daughters, Lisa Washington of Dallas and Katrina Buckner of Blackwell, one son, Phillip Buckner of Blackwell; his parents, J. B. and Annie Myrl Buckner of Blackwell; and one grandson. Pallbearers were Jim Bob Watts, Jim Watts, Jerry Watts, Tony Dove, W. O. Miller, and James Jones, Jr. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the hospice of one's choice.
