L. "Louis" Patterson, loving husband of Mildred Mills Patterson passed peascefully away at his home on February 4, 2000. He was born on July 3, 1915 on the Divide in Coke County, Texas near Robert Lee to Libbie and John L. Patterson. He came to Midland County via horseback in 1926 where he became a lifetime West Texas farmer. He attended Midland High School and met and married his wife Mildred in 1936 and began raising a family of five children. In 1975 they moved to Upton County and continued to farm and ranch, where they resided until retiring to Midland in 1998. He loved farming, and in 1978 he was voted Outstanding Conservative Farmer by the middle Concho Soil and Water Conservation district. He was distinguished as the oldest active farmer in Upton County in 1997. His family has been blessed with a beacon of strength, courage and family values that they will carry throughout their lives. He is survived by his wife, four children: Patricia Lee Prell of Petoskey, MI; Margie Lou Reynolds of Midland, TX; Larry Patrick and Lynda Patterson of Monahans, TX; Rena and Kane Whitaker of Midland, TX; and one brother, M. D. Patterson of Eunice, NM. Twelve granchildren, John Patterson, Theresa Kilmer, Gary Prell, Connie Buchanan, Curtis Reynolds, Cynthia Pinkerton, Dr. Robert Patterson, Erik Patterson, Ramey O'Brien, Wendy O'Brien, Davlin Whitaker and Dalton Whitaker. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, H. A. and Audrie Mills of Indio, CA. He is preceded in death by a beloved son, Charles Louis Patterson, a brother, William E. "Pat" Patterson, a sister, Virginia Eileen Page, and a grandson, James Louis Patterson. Pallbearers were John Bob Hopkins, John Patterson, Jim Patterson, Noel King, Dalton Whitaker and Davlin Whitaker. The family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Midland. Family visitation was held Sunday, February 6, 2000 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Funeral Services were held at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, February 7 at 1:00 pm with graveside service at Resthaven.
