Beaver of Bronte, Texas, born June 5, 1908 in Stephenson, Alabama to Thomas Jefferson and Mary Etta Phillips passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001 at the Bronte Health and Rehab Center at the age of 93. Johnnie moved with her family from Alabama to Texas in 1910. She attended school in Union, Texas and later married Claude Douglas Beaver who preceded her in death in 1982. A resident of Bronte for most of her life, she spent her time as an active homemaker. She was an expert seamstress and was employed for a period of time by the Joni-Lyn Blouse Co. of Bronte. Johnnie is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Grubb and husband Bill of Albuquerque, N. M., one sister, Eula Maude McCutchen of Bronte, a granddaughter, Sharla, great-granddaughter, Kayla, and great-grandson, Jeremy Grubb all of Albuquerque, grandson, Bill, Jr., his wife Terri and great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Grubb of Gilbert, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 28, 2001 at the Central Baptist Church in Bronte. The Rev. R. W. Blackmon officiated assisted by the Rev. Larry Gilbreath, pastor of Central Baptist. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements were by Shaffer Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Marlon McCutchen, Jerry McCutcheon, Harold McCutcheon and Keith McCutchen, all of Bronte, Larry Abbott of San Angelo and Stanley Phillips of Leander, Texas.
