V. Box, 70, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 24 at the Robert Lee Care Center. Service was held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 26 at the First Baptist Church at Robert Lee with burial in the Paint Creek Cemetery. Ar­rangements were by Shafler Funeral Home. S.V. was born April 26, 1931, at Moro, Texas, to Robert Lee and Nellie Gray Box. He graduated from South Taylor High School in 1949 and attended Howard Payne College on a football scholarship, where he was named to the All-Texas Con­ference, Texas College Con­ference, Little All-American Team. He received a master's degree from Hardin-Simmons University in 1964. After graduating from col­lege, he returned to his home town of Tuscola to coach the South Taylor Flying Tigers. He met Robbie Davidson eariy in the school year and they married on December 22, 1955. They moved to Sweetwater in 1956, where he served in many capacities, football coach, principal, and superintendent for the Sweetwater and Roscoe school districts. S.V. and Bobbie retired in 1989 and moved to their ranch west of Robert Lee. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie of the home; 3 sons, Blake of Robert Lee, Marcus and Pam Box of Roscoe and Powell and Joyce Box of Stratford, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Brandon, Ilan­nah and Kevin of Roscoe and Blaze and Rikki of Stratford, Oklahoma; three brothers, Troy of Arlington, Sammie and Jean Box of Arlington, and Travis and Mary Lou Box of Abilene.
