Service was held Saturday, Nov 3, at Robert Lee Baptist church with Mike Burson, Chaplain for Hospice, officiating. Burial followed in Robert Lee Cemetery. Arrangements were by Shaffer Funeral Home. Mae Pearl was born in Crowell, Texas, June 19, 1916 to Effied Tarver and Albert Smith. She married Roland D. Smith and shared 65 years of wedded bliss. Mae Pearl and her husband lived in many places, but retired at Possum Kingdom Lake where they enjoyed many years of rest and relaxation, interrupted by frequent visits by the family they loved. Many memories were created during those days. After a brief stay in Virginia, Roland & Mae Pearl moved to Robert Lee in January 2001. They made their home in Robert Lee with their son Roland (R.D.) D. Smith and wife, Mary Ann. survivors include her husband, Roland D. Smith of Robert Lee; 3 sons, Charles L. Smith and wife, Sherry of California; Roland D. Smith, Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Robert Lee and James D. (Jimmy) Smith and wife, Michi of Virginia; and brother; A.M. (Punk) Smith and wife, Bit, of Odessa. She is survived by seven grandchildren who loved her dearly. Brenda Driskill and Kristi Jones of Robert Lee; Karen Choat & husband Charles of Grape Creek; Kirk Smith of California; David Smith, Susan Ellis and husband David, and Jodie Whalen and husband all of Virginia. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and many friends. Pallbearers included Terry Pennington, Charles Choat, David Hayes, Rick Drennan, Wayland Drennan and Bucky Sparks.
