Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 21, at the First Baptist Church of Bronte with the Reverend Bryan Ross officiating. Burial followed in the Mule Creek Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Jean was born on January 24, 1937, in Cisco to Willie and Geraldine Honea. He attended school in Fort Worth and entered the U.S. Navy in 1954, serving in Korea. On April 14, 1962, Jean married Shirley Derrick in Hobbs. They made their home in Odessa, moving to Orient, TX in January of 1980. He was a member of the Tennyson Baptist Church and the VFW. Jean was a loving father, husband, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Honea of Orient; two daughters, Sheryl Yvonne Thorn of Abilene and April Dawn Honea of Austin; one brother, Bobby Ballard of Big Spring; three sisters, Rose Mary Cook of Fort Worth, Gayle Power of Kennedale, TX, and Dayle Fleniken of Savannah, Ga; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
