Services were held at 2:00 pm, Monday, May 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Bronte, with Pastor Paul Evans officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Zelma was born December 14, 1921, to Dr. J. C. Slaughter and Mary Williamson Slaughter in Robert Lee. She married R. T. Caperton on June 18, 1942, in Robert Lee. Zelma lived in Bronte for more than 35 years where she was secretary for Kickapoo Water District and bookeeper at Highway Garage for 18 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities including Memorial Fund chairman and Financial Secretary. She was a charter member of the Sorosis Club. Zelma was a graduate of Robert Lee High School class of 1939 and Metropolitan Business School of Dallas where she lived and worked for a time. She had also lived in El Reno, Oklahoma, Sterling City, San Angelo and Coleman, where she was secretary to the Chamber of Commerce. Zelma was an asset to every community in which she lived. She was a superior organizer and worked hard at any project she participated in or position she held. Among the many people and things she loved were children, animals and plants. She was a compassionate, loving, faithful, loyal, truthful and thoughtful wife, mother and friend. She will be remembered and missed by many. Zelma is survived by her husband of 59 years and three children, Jacque Miller of Bronte, Randy Caperton and wife Pati of Bryan, Kim Jancha and husband Bill of Austin, three grandchildren, Chance Henderson of Dallas and Dustin and Erin O'Neal of Bryan and one sister, Maxine Percifull of Bronte. She is preceded in death by a sister, Jewel Seeley of Kansas and a brother, Ray Ledbetter of Bartlesville, OK. Pallbearers were Bill Gentry, Bill Luckett, Pete Percifull, Jim Turner, Larry Robinson, Alonzo Robbins and Joe Draper. Honorary Pallbearers were Royce Fancher, Tuny Glenn, Frank Saynor, Jay Crouch, Royce Lee, Finis Westbrook and Ross Foster. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church in Bronte, Texas 76933. The family wishes to thank all the friends who have so generously given of themselves during Zelma's illness and at this time of their loss.
