Smith was born June 10, 1912, to Lem and Lillie Cowfey, at Robert Lee, Texas and died March 11, 2002 at her home in Bronte. She was a dedicated Chris­tian, longtime member of First Baptist Church in Bronte and was positive she had the smartest and most beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren in the country. She was married to Ohs Smith January 4, 1930 and had been in failing health since his death in 1999. They had lived in Bronte throughout their 69 year marriage. She was look­ing forward to attending the wedding of her great grand­daughter March 23 and a 90th birthday party being planned for June. Funeral services were held at 10.00 am Thursday, March 14 at First Baptist Church in Bronte followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery. Her family received friends at Shaffer Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm. Mrs. Smith was a long-time member of the Diversity Club. She also held the position of Sunday School Secretarv for approximately 45 years at First Baptist Church in Bronte. She is survived by he daughter and husband, Jean and E.S. (Snooky) Herring of Maryneal; three grandchildren and their spouses, Donna and Mike Gosney of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Randy and Jan Sheppard of Del Rio and Rick and Cindy Sheppard ol Uvalde. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, Kimberlee and Matt Gosney of Auburn, Alabama, Dr. Alyssa Gosney and her fiancee, Danny Rieber of Houston, Jodi Sheppard of Lubbock, Jamie Sheppard and Nash Sheppard of San Angelo, Zachary Sheppard of Au Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Martin Keller of Stonewall. She also leaves three sisters, Cova Sparks and Dale Fields of Robert Lee and Clema Rampy and husband, Pete of Grape Creek, one sister-in-law, Mozelle Smith of Bronte and several nieces and nephews. Services were under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte. Grandsons and great grandsons served as pall bearers.
