Graveside services were held on Tuesday, December 10, 2002, in the Fairview Cemetery in Bronte, Texas. with John Driggers officiating. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Bronte. Marie was born on July 31, 1915 in Leander, Texas, to William T. and Mabel Davis. She married Guy Strickland in 1947 in Kingsville, Texas and moved to this area in 1953. She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents; three sisters, Lorraine Atkins, Gladys Clemmons, and Artis Autrey; one brother, W. T. Davis, Jr. Marie is survived by one son and his wife, Robert N. “Bob” and Gail Strickland of Merkel, Texas; one daughter and her husband, Lillian and Robert Porter of San Angelo, Texas; two brothers, James Davis of Alief and Hershel Davis of Hillsboro, Texas; three sisters, Laverne Mullan of Aransas Pass, Dorothy Nix of Bishop, and Marjorie Heck of Taft; six grandchildren, Tod Strickland of Katy, Jill Cloud of Springfield, VA., Clipper Strickland of Merkel, Cody Porter of Big Spring, Kristi Porter of New York City; four great grandchildren, Parker and Stinson Hamilton and Dylon and Tyler Cloud. The family asks that memorials be made to the Bronte Health and Rehab Center, Vista Care Hospice, or Bronte EMS. The family wishes to thank the employees of Bronte Health and Rehab and Dr. John Hunt for their loving care of Marie.
