The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Robert Lee, Coke County, TX - June 13, 2003 Bonnie Daniel "Bon" Spoonts, age 86, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2003 in the Bronte Health and Rehab Center. Bon was born September 12, 1915 in Ft. Chadbourne to O. D. and Leona McDaniel Spoonts. Bon married Cloreta Bruton May 23, 1942 in San Luis Obispo California while serving in the US Army during World War II and then served in the Korean Conflict. Bon will be remembered by many for his love of baseball. He was an avid player in his younger years during the 30's and 40's and even into the 50's. Bon owned and operated a Cosden Oil Dealership in Bronte after the service and ranched for many years in Priddy and Ft. Chadbourne. He worked for Mustang Chevrolet in San Angelo, Taylor Chevrolet in Abilene and Toliver Chevrolet in Haskell. Returning to Bronte to retire, he owned and operated his own convenience store. Survivors are his beloved wife of 61 years, Cloreta of Bronte; son, John Spoonts and wife, Jo Etta of Ft. Worth; daughter, Linda Massengill and husband, Roy of Bronte; granddaughter, Stephanie Price and husband, Capt. Christopher Price of Pope AFB, North Carolina; great granddaughters, Madison Price and Kristen Price of Pope AFB, North Carolina. Also, one sister, Virdis Fancher of Bronte; one brother, W. O. Spoonts of San Angelo and a special sister-in-law, Inella Nicholas of Bronte. Military graveside services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2003 at 10:00 am at Fairview Cemetery in Bronte with Brother John Driggers officiating. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home.
