The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Robert Lee, Coke County, TX - March 7, 2003 Sidney Gilbert "Gib" Wallace Sidney Gilbert "Gib" Wallace passed from this earthly life to be with his Lord and beloved wife on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at Community Medical Center in San Angelo at the age of 96. Born August 30, 1906, in Robert Lee, Texas to H. B. and Mildred Wallace, Gib lived his childhood in Coke County and graduated from Robert Lee High School in 1925. He then attended Draughon's Business College in Abilene, Texas on one of the first scholarships that Draughn's ever awarded. Gib later moved to Pecos, Texas where he worked in the Civil Service before becoming a carpenter by trade. A master at carpentry, he excelled in cabinet making and created other beautiful pieces of woodwork. He married Odessa Elrod of Clovis, NM on July 17, 1938. After his retirement in 1981, Gib and Odessa moved to Robert Lee. After 52 years of love and happiness, Odessa passed away on January 31, 1989. Preceding Gib in death were his beloved wife, parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Surviving Gib is his daughter, Gayla Cox and her husband, Jim of San Angelo; his very special and precious grandchildren, Melissa Renfroe and her husband, Will of Mason, Texas; and Justin Bradford of Denton, Texas. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Royce Wallace and wife, Jewel of Robert Lee; Marie Allen and husband, Travis of Englewood, CO; Aline Minner of Amarillo; Lura Harris and husband, Bob, and Freeda Pickett, all of Burkburnett; Bill Wallace and wife, Dee of Nacogdoches; and Sidney Meyers of Amarillo; as well as a number of great nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service was held February 27, 2003, at the Northside Church of Christ in Robert Lee. Burial was in Robert Lee Cemetery. Tommy Williams and Kenneth Green officiated at the service. Pallbearers were Robert Reece, Bill Wallace, Jacky Wallace, Buddy Wallace, Morris Wallace and Jackie Smith. Gib was a very devoted and dedicated Christian. Daddy and "Gan-Daddy", and will be greatly missed by his "Mimbo, Justano and Galo". He was a precious part of our lives and has left a void that can never be filled. A very special Thank You to Royce, Alice, J. C. and Jewel for helping watch over "Uncle Gib", and for all of your love and support during the years, but especially the past few weeks.
