All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/txfiles.htm *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Robert Lee, Coke County, TX - February 6, 2004 BOYKIN Benjamin Alfred Boykin was born on July 8, 1920 to Benjamin Horace Boykin and Grace Key Boykin in Edith, Texas. He was a farmer and rancher in Coke County for most of his life after serving his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He supported the Coke County Livestock Show and annual Hunter's BBQ as well as the Texas Farm Bureau. He will always be remembered by his friends and family for his generous spirit and his affinity for political discourse. His performances as Jack Miles in the Ole Coke County Pageant and the love of music bring fond memories to us. He was also an avid weather watcher and instilled in each family memeber a love for nature and the outdoor world that continues to bring us joy today. To old friends in Robert Lee, he will be remembered as, "Butane," for the years he worked for Butane Sales. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dawn Boykin, of Robert Lee, son and daughter-in-law Benny and Jo Ann Boykin of Ben Wheeler, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law Dawn and Billy Bob Highsmith of Boerne, Texas; Rosanna and Kevin Webb of Gainesville, Texas; grandchildren Madelon and Craig Coover of Highland Village, Texas; Tracy and Todd Johnson of Ben Wheeler, Texas; Ben, Jr. and Cara Boykin of Denver, Colorado; Charles Highsmith and fiance, Meredith Greene of Austin, Texas; Keith and Andrea Webb of Nacogdoches, Texas; Chasa Webb and fiance, Chris Bezner of Gainesville, Texas; and several great-grandchildren: Samara Bezner, Zane Johnson, Tyler Coover, and Jonah Johnson. Mr. Boykin is also survived by one sister, Nelia Walker (Mrs. D. J. Walker) of Robert Lee and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynnette Boykin, in 1992. Graveside services were Thursday, February 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Paint Creek Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Dr. Joe Pool, friend of the family, officiated. Honorary pall bearers were Charles Highsmith, Ben Boykin, Jr., Keith Webb, Craig Coover, Todd Johnson and Chris Bezner.
