All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/txfiles.htm *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Robert Lee, Coke County, TX- February 13, 2004 MIDDLETON Lillian Middleton, 96, died at the Robert Lee Care Center February 3, 2004. She had been a resident of the Care Center since suffering a stroke in 1999. Lillian was born December 30, 1907, at Hayrick to Robert Martin Williams and Willie Sharrar Williams. She grew up in the Hayrick community and married "Clayton Caraway in the Williams family home on February 26, 1926. The couple resided on the Caraway ranch until 1933, at which time they moved to Blackwell. Following Mr. Caraway's death in 1952, Lillian moved to Robert Lee. She became a Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked for many years at the West Coke County Hospital. She also worked for a short time at the Robert Lee State Bank. In 1961, Lillian married Dan Middleton and they lived on a ranch at Hayrick. After Mr. Middleton's death in 1969, Lillian continued to operate the ranch the next four years. In March 1973, she moved back to Robert Lee, and a short while later she returned to the nursing profession. She worked at the Robert Lee Care Center until a health problem forced her retirement at age 75. In addition to her husbands, her parents, and her five siblings, Lillian was preceded in death by her son Wilfred R. Caraway and her daughter Zelda Woodard. She is survived by her son Jim Caraway of Bryan, TX; her daughter Glo Snead of Ft. Washington, Maryland; five grandchildren, David Snead, New York, NY; Todd Woodard, Houston, TX; Angela Smith, Springfield, VA; Elizabeth Caraway, San Marcos, TX; Ann Marie Caraway, Houston, TX; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Lillian was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1968 and 1973. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 13, qt 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Robert Lee Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
