A family visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Shaffer Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, at the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery. Roy was born on Dec. 31, 1924, in Coke County, Texas, to Robert Greenberry and Orlena Wimberly Raney. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, and was later employed by Pan American World Airways. While working for Pan American, the family lived in Central America, South America, Germany, West Berlin, Florida, Virginia, and Houston. Retiring in 1983, he returned to Blackwell. Roy and his wife, Delsey, recently celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary. He was a woodcrafter and could make almost anything. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Blackwell and was also a member of the Cemetery Board for many years. Mr. Raney was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Beverly Perry. Roy is survived by his wife, Delsey C. Raney of Blackwell; his children and grandchildren, Roy A. Raney, Jr. and wife, Lynette, and daughters, Lyndsey and Laura of Mertzon, Texas; Glenn Raney and wife, Julie, and children, Zach and Hannah of Spring, Texas; Patricia Bailey and husband, Albert, and children, Stephanie and Robert of Gainesville, Va.; and Beverly’s children, Dustin and Ashley Perry of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Travis; two brothers, Ralph Raney of Euless, Texas, and Coy Raney of Wingate, Texas; two sisters, Vera Tipps of Mineral Wells and Hulene Magness of Blackwell; and numerous nieces and nephews that he thought the world of. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Blackwell or the Blackwell Cemetery Association.
