Col. Clell Varnadore died March 18, 2004 and was buried in Ft. Smith, Arkansas Camp Chaffe Miliary Cemetery. Family members who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Royce Smith of Robert Lee; their children, James Smith of Dallas, Debbie Gleghorn of Ballinger and Edwin Smith of San Angelo. "Hank" Varnadore passed away in his home in Fort Smith, Thursday, March 18, 2004. He was born in Robert Lee, on Oct. 19, 1916, to Henry and Gracie Varnadore. He was the oldest of six children. He joined the Army after graduation from high school and earned his pilot wings in the Army Air Corps. He served his country over 36 years of active and reserve military duty. He retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel from the 188th TFG, Arkansas Air National Guard in 1968. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons and daughters-in-law, H. C. and Sylvia of Fort Smith, Don and Sharon of Orlando, Fl.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, J. Que of Houston; two sisters, Lynn Doris Smith of Robert Lee, and Nita Scott of Grass Valley, CA. Permission granted by The Observer/Enterprise for publication in the Coke County TXGenWeb Archives.
