All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm ***************************************************** San Angelo Standard-Times, January 4, 2006 ROBERT LEE--William Douglas DITMORE of Robert Lee passed away at his home at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006. Known as "Doug" by all his friends and family, he was born in Tom Green County, Texas, to Claude DITMORE and Ethel Key DITMORE on May 7, 1927. Doug attended a one-room schoolhouse in the Lometa community, between Bronte and Tennyson, Texas. His family moved to Tennyson, where he met Ms. Grace Irene GREEN in 1939 at the age of 12. Doug and Grace were high school sweethearts. They married at the First Baptist Church in Tennyson, Texas, on Dec. 25, 1953. Doug was a stock farmer in Tennyson until September 2003. He also owned a Texaco station, laundry mat and a pool hall for the kids to play in Bronte. In the mid-1960s, they left Bronte and moved to Robert Lee, where they purchased the Butane Sales Co. He also worked on the Lake Spence Dam Project and helped to build Highway 158, between Robert Lee and Sterling City. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Grace Irene Green DITMORE of Robert Lee, one stepsister, Ella Mae SEFFY; and one aunt, Ester Lee KEY, both of San Angelo; nephews Michael DITMORE and wife Tammy of Thousand Oaks, Ca., Ray DITMORE and wife Phyllis of Virginia, and Wayne MCGINNES and wife Cindy of Eldorado; and one niece, Linda MCGINNES of Lovington, N.M. He is also survived by his extended family, Fran and Chuck ROHRBACH of San Angelo, and Shellie BRANHAM of Christoval; extended grandchildren Garrett PAGE and Weston BRANHAM, both of Christoval; Lonnie SMITH of Bronte and one sister-in-law, Dorothy HARRELL of Sonora. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Robert Lee Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Bronte, Texas. The family requests that everyone dress casually, no suits or ties. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Doug loved Grace, people, fishing, tractors, pickup trucks, fish frys, shelling pecans, a good story, and a little nip now and then....Generous to a fault, was loved well and will be sorrowfully missed by all.
