Obituary: Dorthey Faye Scott Pruitt, February 2, 2008 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines December 2010 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - February 2008 PRUITT Dorthey Faye Scott Pruitt, 75, saw Jesus February 2, 2008. She passed from this life at Fountain Lake Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Central Baptist Church in Bronte, Texas. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Bronte, Texas, directed by Shaffer Funeral Home. She was born August 9, 1932, in Bronte, Texas and graduated from Bronte High School. She married Noah Lafayette Pruitt Jr. May 1, 1951. She was the granddaughter of early Coke County settlers Joseph Lee and Margaret Ann Rodgers Scott and John Weaver and Natalie Danalofna Higgingbotham Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her father, James Walter Scott; mother Faye Irene Mitchell Scott; and brothers James Weaver Scott, Joe Lee Scott and Danny Ray Scott. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Noah Pruitt Jr. Of Bronte; one daughter, Norma Lynn Allbright Rickman and son-in-law Si Rickman; and one grandson, the love of her life, Brian Pruitt Allbright, all of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Dorthey loved Jesus and her church and was a member of Kickapoo/Central Baptist Church all her life. She served as church pianist for over 50 years. She was a charter member of the Bronte Eastern Star Chapter 1048, five times Past Matron. In high school, she loved sports and all of her lifelong friends and teammates. She was an outstanding athlete in track, basketball and especially loved volleyball. She liked to travel and was blessed with the opportunity of traveling to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, 10 Asian countries, extensive European travels and Russia. One of her most memorable travels was the Rhine River and ancient castle tours, climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the Eiffel Tower. She was a missionary to Moscow, Russia, with Balboa Baptist Church of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. She cherished Pearl harbor history and the World War II Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. Her favorite hobbies were genealogy and preserving family heirlooms and history. She was a member of the Sorosis Study Club. She instigated and was the chairperson of the recently erected Coke County Veterans memorial Monument, which was dedicated the new millennium year and adjacent to the original Bronte Depot. She was instrumental in the restoration of the depot, working endlessly to preserve the historical landmark. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in 1959 and retired as postmaster in Carlsbad, Texas in 1992. Dorthey always explained that her roots and home were Bronte, Texas, and she loved and was a Bronte Longhorn, but she enjoyed the beauty and serenity of Hot Springs Village. Our Meme was a good wife, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Family and friends were her life and she genuinely cared about each of you.
