All rights reserved *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - April 16, 2010 JOYCE MARIE ECKERT Joyce Marie Eckert passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at her home. Viewing was all day Sunday & Monday at Shaffer Funeral Home in San Angelo. A family visitation was held Tuesday, April 13, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Robert Lee. Grave side service was at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the Robert Lee Cemetery, officiated by Lewis Burnett. Joyce Marie Eckert was born December 16, 1923, to George P. and Susie Marie Hester in Robert Lee, Texas. She graduated from Miles High School and San Angelo Junior College. She was a long time member of Southland Baptist Church. Joyce Eckert was married to Victor Daniel Eckert on April 19, 1942, in Miles, Texas, at her parent's house. There were three children born to this union. Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was there for everyone cooking meals, making dresses, and taking care of the home. She was a longtime member of the Roadrunner RV Club. She circled the United States three times. She was a Leader of the Brownies, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She loved polka music and never missed a Wurstfest or an Octoberfest. Vick and Joyce Eckert were married for seventy years and dated three years before that. She was Vick's secretary at Vick Eckert's Construction Company for 40 years. Joyce was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia and she kept them displayed for all of the public eye. When the IRAs came available, Vick put Joyce on the payroll for $50.00 a week. Joyce looked at her check as she was writing out the payroll one day and said "I believe I am worth more than that." Joyce Eckert knew the meaning of love. She is preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Tamela Lewis. Joyce is survived by three children, Vicky Eckert, Becky Eckert, Mike Eckert and his wife Estelle; six grandchildren, Kyle Kemp, Robin Kemp, Andrew Read, Amy Adams, Grant Eckert, Emily Eckert; two great grandchildren, Daniel Kemp and Zoie Allen. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice of San Angelo for their loving care of their wife and mother. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to Hospice of San Angelo.
