Visitation was held at the funeral home all day Tuesday, April 13, with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services were at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Bronte, with burial following at Fairview Cemetery. Services were conducted by Garry Bivins and assisted by Cory Cornut. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Snookye was born on May 11, 1926, to Bailey and Iva Bell in Bronte, Texas. She married Marvin Hollis Landers on July 31, 1948. They joined First Baptist Church of Bronte on February 16, 1947, and were baptized together by the Rev. Reuben Blake. They had many wonderful years together and were so fortunate to share that time with their daughter, Paula Jane and her family. She and her family were one of their greatest joys in life. She was a rural mail carrier and was very devoted to her job. During this time, she made many life long friends, of which all would tell you, that you could always set your watch by Snookye. Snookye retired for her job with the postal service after 40 years. Pallbearers were James Vaughn, Jay Henderson, Wayne Coalson, Jeff Hart, and Jody Luttrell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years; her parents; and two sisters, Jerry Proctor and Pauline Luttrell. Snookye is survived by her daughter, Paula Jane McGinley of San Angelo; her grandson, Blake Rolls and his wife Nicole; her great-grandsons, Ashton and Avery all of San Angelo; her "adopted" son Ray Barnett and his wife, Brenda; her sister-in-law, Mattie McKay of Clyde, Texas; her nephews, J. O. Landers, Jody Luttrell, Max Luttrell, and Jason Donaldson; her nieces, Elaine Donaldson and her husband Kyle of Sonora, Traci Hart, Sandra, Susan and Sally. There are three very special friends that we have counted on for so long and they are Gene Allen Sherrod, Sissy Burson and Susan Ward. They are our family. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Anderton and the special staff at Shannon Medical Center for taking such good care of Ma. We love you Ma and will all see you again one day. You will always be with us and will remain forever in our hearts.
