All rights reserved *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - April 2, 2010 WILBERN lANDERS MILLICAN Wilbern Landers Millican, 83, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Robert Lee Care Center. Visitation was Monday, March 29, 2010, with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral service was at 3 pm Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Robert Lee Baptist Church with burial following at the Terry Memorial Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Wilbern Landers Millican was born Jun 18, 1926, to Pleas and Lena Millican. He was born and raised in the Edith Community, 12, miles west of Robert Lee, and he attended the Edith Green Mountain School until his eighth grade year. His remainder school days were attended at Robert Lee ISD. After graduating from high school in 1944 at the early age of 18, Wilbern went to serve his country in World War II. He served his duty in the South Pacific aboard the USS Rockbridge, an APA 228 Transport Ship. Wilbern saw action in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. After his duty in the Navy was over, Wilbern returned back to his home in Robert Lee and began ranching with his brother, Finis Millican and later began his work of 30 years in the oil field. On February 25, 1950, he married Charlotte Ray Long of Big Spring. They were married for 60 years and had five boys, Teddy Wayne, Waldon Lee, Wilbern(Wibby) Ray, Terry Joe, and Pammy Lynn. They made their home in Silver, Texas for 13 years while Wilbern worked for Perkins Prothro. They lived in the Silver Camp where they made life long friends and wonderful memories. Wilbern loved his life as a rancher. Ranching was something he continued to do all throughout his life. He raised sheep, cattle, goats and loved good horses. He also loved raising good show lambs for his children and grandchildren. Wilbern was a very active member of his community. He loved people and loved lending a helping hand to anyone. He served on Numerous boards and committees throughout his life for the betterment of his community. He was a member and chairman of the Coke County Livestock board for many years. He also served on the School Board, FHA (Farm and Home Administration) Board. He served as Chairman of the Soil and Water Conservation Board. He served on the Underground Water Board and the ASCS Board. For all the years of hard work, dedication and loyalty Wilbern provided, he received many awards. In 2003 he received a 28 year service award from the Soil Conservation. In 2004 he earned the Conservation of the Year Rancher Award. Wilbern Millican was a member of the Robert Lee Southside Church of Christ. He loved living and enjoyed many great things about life. In his younger days he loved to gather with friends and have roping competitions. The love of competition continued throughout his life as he took pride and joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow. He spent all of his spare time watching livestock shows, rodeos, basketball games, football games, pep-rallies and track meets. He will forever be remembered in all our hearts as a supportive, devoted and loving Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Friend. Wlbern is preceded in death by his parents, Pleas and Lena Millican: two sisters, LaRue Mammone and Vana Beth Danford, and granddaughter, Lauren Millican. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Millican; brother, Finis Millican; five children, Teddy Millican of Robert Lee, Waldon and Judy Millican of Robert Lee, Wibby and Kelly Millican of Robert Lee, Terry and Ann Millican of Seminole, Pammy and Jill Millican of Dimmitt. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Tracy Williams and husband Brad, Erin Inman and husband Ben, Whitney Vincent and husband Jeremy, Ashlee and fiancé Kerry Sisson, Kyla and fiance Riley Tully, Lance, Allison, Blake, Cheyanne, Carson, Lanam, Harlie and Ritzy; three great grandchildren, Cy and Kross Williams and Malory Vincent. Memorials can be made to the Coke County Fire Department or the Coke County EMS Department.
