Obituary: Vance Roy Simpson, November 28, 2010 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines December 2010 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - Dec 3, 2010 SIMPSON Vance Roy Simpson, 85, of Divide, Colorado, died Sunday, November 28, 2010, after a valiant fight. Born January 30, 1925, on the Divide, Water Valley, Texas, he was the son of the late Victor and Nellie Simpson. Vance was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Grace. He is survived by their son, Colonel Victor A. Simpson, USMC, Retired. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Jan Simpson; grandson Craig and wife, Allison Simpson; granddaughter Brooke and husband, Stephen Brown. A proud great-grandfather, he also leaves behind great-grandsons Tyler Martin and Logan Victor and great- granddaughter, Carly Grace. He is also survived by his sister Annelle McDaniel and brother Glenn Simpson of San Angelo, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Upon graduation from Robert Lee High School in Robert Lee, Texas, at age 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps. Vance was sent to the Pacific to fight as a US Marine. Having spent three years growing up fast defending our country, he was involved in campaigns on Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. He was later sent to the Viet Nam conflict. MGySgt Simpson retired from the Marine Corps after twenty-seven years of devoted service. He was a 40 year resident of Vista, California, before moving to Colorado in 2003.
