All rights reserved *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - April 2, 2010 HUBERT O. WHITT, JR. Hubert O. Whitt, Jr. Passed away at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the age of 82. Whitt was born on July 7, 1927, in Sweetwater, Texas. He graduated from Bronte High School in 1944 and attended John Tarleton Agriculture College until joining the Navy; he attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1949 with a B. A. in business Administration. Whitt was employed in 1949 by El Paso Natural Gas Co. He retired in 1983 after 33 years, befriending coworkers and neighbors in El Paso, Jal, NM and Midland, Texas. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Midland, he also served as a Mason. Whitt was the "memory" of his friends and family. He recalled everyone's names, regaled us with long stories, helped us laugh at our weaknesses and celebrate our joys and reminded us all of the importance of friends. El Paso Natural Gas friends of 50 years who met for coffee on Wednesdays in Midland relied on him to remember co-workers, secretaries, bosses, and the details of success and sorrows. He is survived by two nieces, Delryn Fleming and husband, James Kilmer of Carrollton and Debbie Meads and husband, Ron Meads of San Angelo; and two nephews, David Fleming of Plano and Ronnie Whitt and wife, Shannon of Floresville. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. O. and Della Whitt; his brother, Donald LaMarr Whitt; and his sister, Kay Whitt Fleming. Burial was at Lawnhaven Memorial Park in San Angelo at 10 am Monday, March 29, 2010. A memorial service will be held at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Chapel in Midland at 1 pm Saturday, April 3, 2010. Memorials may be directed to Community and Senior Services of Midland or a charity of choice. The family also expresses its appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff and nurses at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring and Compass Hospice.
