Obituary: Arthur Wayne Arrott, January 17, 2011 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines June 2015 *********************************************************************** Mason County News, January 19, 2011 BRONTE - Arthur Wayne Arrott of Mason, Texas died Monday, January 17, 2011 at his home from COPD, a lung disease. Wayne was formerly from Bronte and Tennyson, Texas, where he lived most of his life. The family will receive friends during visitation on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte, TX. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bronte with the Rev. Garry Bivins, pastor of the Melvin Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Bronte. Wayne was born in San Angelo, TX on January 14, 1933 to James P. and Virgie (Corley) Arrott. Wayne grew up in Tennyson, Tx and graduated from Bronte High School in 1949. During his youth, he was active in the 4-H and FFA programs in Coke County. He competed in livestock shows, livestock judging contest and the 4-H sheep shearing contest. Wayne earned a trip to National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Illinois in 1948. Wayne attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry in 1954. During his college career, Wayne was involved in the Block and Bridal Club and competed on Livestock Judging Team. Wayne was also a member of the Texas Tech University Rodeo Team. Wayne met Sandra Weaver of San Angelo on a blind date in May 1951 and they were married on December 11, 1952 in San Angelo. Wayne and Sandra celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past December. Wayne always had a passion for agriculture and especially raising livestock. Upon college graduation, Wayne moved to Orient, TX and began to work on a farm and ranch operation with his father. Wayne bought a place in Runnels County in 1963 and raised sheep and angora goats. Wayne also farmed wheat and other small grain crops. He appreciated quality livestock and began raising show lambs in the mid 1980's. His daughters and grandchildren exhibited award winning lambs he raised at county and major livestock shows across Texas. Wayne enjoyed working the land and caring for livestock until his health no longer allowed him to do so. Wayne and Sandra bought a home and moved to Bronte in 1969. Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bronte and was ordained as a church Deacon in 1976. He served as Sunday School Director for almost 20 years and loved serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Wayne was a community leader and served on the Bronte ISD School Board for four terms and on the Coke County Board of Equalization. He also served as a 4-H leader in Coke County for many years. Wayne was elected as Constable in Coke County and served in this position for 20 years until his retirement in 1996. Wayne was an avid Texas Tech University Red Raider fan and enjoyed watching a wide range of sports. He especially loved to watch his daughters and grandchildren compete on various sport teams. Wayne loved his family and truly enjoyed the time he shared with family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Wayne is survived by his wife Sandra; four daughters: Susan Whittaker and husband Bob of Ft. Worth, Diane Kirpach of Bend Or, Karen Ensor and husband Marvin of San Angelo, and Melissa Stockbridge and husband Denver of Mason; eight grandchildren- Emily (Ensor) Morris and husband Cade of Salado, Kaley (Ensor) Barrett and husband Casey of San Angelo, Whitney Ensor of Lubbock, Stephanie Kirpach of Bend, Or, Scott Whittaker of Ft. Worth and Chance, Kenley, and Brooke Stockbridge of Mason; and three great grandchildren - Macy and Carter Morris and Rylee Barrett. Other surviving family includes; two brothers, J.B. Arrott of Bronte and Dee Arrott of Little Rock, Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews; four aunts, Mrs. Exa Smith of Miles, Mrs. Grace Arrott of San Angelo, Mrs. Christine Corley and Mrs. Effie Corley of Bronte; and many Arrott and Corley cousins. The family wishes to send a warm thank you to Dr. Johnnie B. French of San Angelo for his care of Wayne for many years. Also, we wish to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Mark Eden of Fredericksburg, MKM Home Health of Mason, especially our daughter Melissa Stockbridge, Hill Country Memorial Hospice of Fredericksburg, Jerry Paulin R.N. and others for their special care.
