Obituary: James Q. Barnes, February 7, 2011 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines May 2011 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - Feb 2011 BARNES James Q. Barnes, 84, of Hatch, NM, passed away on February 7, 2011. He was born February 7, 1927 to J.Q. and Ila Ruth Turney Barnes in Santa Anna, TX. His grandfather was Dr. F.K. Turney, the medical doctor in Coke County in the 1910's, 1920's, and 1930's. James Q. attended the Robert Lee Schols in 1939-1940 when he was in the sixth grade. He graduated from Hatch High School, New Mexico, then served his country in the United States Navy. He received his B.S. degree from Sul Ross University at Alpine, TX, and his M.A degree from New Mexico Western University, Silver City, NM. Barnes taught school at Rincon and Hatch, NM, served as a principal and superintendent of Hatch Valley School for almost 20 years. After his retirement, he taught graduate classes in Business Administration at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. James Q. loved outdoor sports - boating, fishing, hunting, camping, and exploring the desert of southern NM. He is survived by his wife, Lucy A. Barnes of Hatch; a brother, Donald Joseph Barnes and sister-in-law, Kathy Barnes of Las Cruces, NM, two nephews, one niece, four grandnieces and four grandnephews. Following a funeral service in Hatch, NM on Feb. 12, 2011, interment was in the family plot at the Robert Lee Cemetery in Robert Lee, TX on Feb. 15, 2011. Gravesite rites were conducted by the Rev.
